F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby relates directly to our current society that is plagued by corruption and the unhappiness associated with money. It shows how morals in the past and present are basically identical. People assume that Gatsby is rich and has all the nice, expensive things like his car and house. People who are fake to get all the money-oriented items also benefit from the money. Fitzgerald exploits Gatsby’s shallowness by showing him his mansion. This is to show that a lavish lifestyle doesn’t always bring happiness. Fitzgerald uses money in the book to symbolize a false dream, unhappiness and loneliness. The novel’s beginning shows that Jay Gatsby had all the materialistic things a person could desire. Jay Gatsby didn’t like his life. The only thing he desired was to be free from the restrictions on what he could have. Gatsby was lonely despite having flashy cars and a huge mansion. Nick Carraway writes that Gatsby bought the house to make Daisy’s bay view. Gatsby, who wanted to be close to Daisy, bought his mansion as a way to indulge him. LiteraryDevices.net researchers stated that Gatsby owns a lavish mansion which symbolizes his love for Daisy. Gatsby thought he was following Daisy to win her affection and money. However, he ends up feeling lonely because all that he has left are the materialistic things he bought. Jay Gatsby tried to live in a fantasy he had created in his head. Gatsby was known for throwing huge parties where anyone could attend. These parties were not just for the sake of meeting everyone who came in, but Mr. Gatsby also hosted them. In truth, he wasn’t even there. He thought that Daisy might wander in to his parties and the two of them could either start over, or rekindle love. Gatsby hoped that because nothing had happened in five years, he and Daisy would be reunited. For a split second, it seems like Gatsby was convinced that Daisy would not change. He almost waited on Daisy. The narrator Nick Carraway states that Daisy had been waiting almost five years. There must’ve been moments when Daisy failed to realize his dreams …..but thanks to the colossal viability of his illusion. Jay may have been a bit crazy about Daisy. But he can see that time is slipping away and that he can pick up from where he left off. Research shows that Gatsby seems to live a luxurious life. It is clear that Gatsby tried to buy Daisy back using his money-oriented items. Jay Gatsby tried his best to recreate history. Thirdly Jay Gatsby was unsuccessful in winning Daisy back, but he ultimately died by himself because he tried his best to recreate the present. Gatsby almost believed Daisy was not coming to him because she didn’t have enough money or luxury items. To give her hope, he had lied to her in the beginning of their marriage to convince her that she could stay. She left, however. Nick Carraway writes that Daisy was a person he thought was a hypocrite ….he had taken Daisy under false pretenses…he deliberately gave Daisy a feeling of security. He made her believe that he was of the same social class as her. It is therefore possible to state that he lied with Daisy. Daisy wouldn’t let him leave her. Literarydevices states that Gatsby used the new money to purchase things for Daisy. Jay Gatsby attempted to win Daisy’s trust with money once he had the chance. He feels that the money he gave her was what took her away. The Great Gatsby looks back at today’s money. The world believes that money is a sign of happiness and contentment. They are living the American Dream. Their feelings are also ignored by the world. Many people are very money-hungry. Jay Gatsby fell prey to the materialistic lifestyle and became so consumed with it that he couldn’t even see what his life was like. Mr. Gatsby was unhappy and lonely despite all the money he had.

This novel should be read by teachers today. This book describes all the people who become obsessed with money and the causes of their misery. It helps teenagers, adults, and children to see that money does not bring happiness. Instead, they must discover it in themselves.
